North London Shotokan Karate (NLSK) took part in the English Karate Federation, Southern Regional Championships 2008, at Dagenham. With many Junior, Cadet and Senior champions taking part, it was going to be very difficult to come away with a medal.

But credit to the squad members, they achieved 4 bronze medals and 1 silver. Lydie Luis took bronze in the Ladies Senior Kata division, this was followed by Ellen Welsh who achieved bronze in the girls under 15's Kumite division, even though she is still only eleven. She was quickly followed by her brother, Jack Welsh getting his first medal, he took bronze in the Cadet Male-70 kg which was a great achievement with such a high calibre of competitors.

Christine McNeill then competed in the Female +60Kg Kumite losing to Katie Hurry in the final, getting silver, Katie had just returned from competing in Estonia in the European Championships. Christine went on to win another medal when she took bronze in the Ladies open event.
