Christine McNeill
2nd Dan (Black)

Chris took up karate at the age of 27 having harboured an interest for many years. She joined the local Hyashi-ha Shitoryu karate club which fired her interest in karate. Here she trained for two years with Sensei Paul Saunders (6th dan), who also taught fighting with weapons. She particularly enjoyed the bo (staff) and was fortunate to attend a training course held by Shihan Mitsuya (8th dan) in that dicipline.

After having a break from karate training when she had her first child, she returned to train at a Tottenham Shotokan club and took her gradings up to 2nd kyu under Sensei Ohta. After another break to extend the family she joined a JKA affiliated Chingford club for three years, obtaining her 1st dan in August 2004.

Chris enjoys competition and has won two medals in team kumite, third place in the Maltese International open in July and a silver in team kata. She is very pleased to have joined the North London Shotokan club and hopes to improve her fighting style under the guidance of Sensei John De Bono.
